In the competitive world of finance, few alumni have made a lasting impact as Justin Nelson has at JP Morgan. Nelson, a Tufts University alumnus
from the class of 1998, has been instrumental in forging a vital connection
between his alma mater and the prestigious financial institution, JP Morgan.
Nelson’s journey began during his junior year at Tufts, when he sought a summer internship in
finance. Despite the absence of on-campus recruitment at the time, he secured a
role as a web developer at JP Morgan in New York City, thanks to connections
within the industry. This pivotal experience paved the way for his full-time
position in the firm’s private banking division, where he eventually rose to
the role of managing director in asset management in Greenwich, Connecticut.
In 2006, Justin Nelson embarked on a mission to ensure that future Tufts students had
access to opportunities within JP Morgan that he did not. He spearheaded
efforts to make Tufts a core school for JP Morgan’s asset management group.
This initiative, albeit challenging, bore fruit as he singlehandedly managed
the recruitment process, from traveling to campus to collecting résumés.
Nelson’s persistence paid off. By 2009, Tufts was officially recognized as a core
school, and since then, approximately 20 Tufts graduates have secured
internships or full-time roles at JP Morgan Private Bank. This achievement underscores Nelson’s dedication to
opening doors for aspiring students.
Beyond recruitment, Nelson has actively engaged with the Tufts Financial Network, sharing his
expertise through educational sessions. His efforts have not only strengthened
the ties between Tufts and JP Morgan but have also fostered a community of
alumni who support current students in their career pursuits.
Nelson continues to encourage fellow alumni to advocate for Tufts students within their respective
firms, ensuring that the legacy of support and opportunity he has built remains
robust and enduring. Visit this page on LinkedIn, to learn more.
