He shared the message he would give to any young person weighing a career in the sector. “I would say don’t believe any of this nonsense that we’re transitioning out of energy,” Kelcy Warren said. “We’re not. That can’t happen, it’s impossible, but we are never going to run from the rhetoric. So I would say for young people, don’t buy off on that. You’re too smart.”

The comment captured a worldview that Warren has built through more than four decades of work in the energy industry. He co-founded Energy Transfer in the mid-1990s after earlier stints at Lone Star Gas Company and other midstream operators. The company grew steadily through acquisitions and organic expansion, and today it controls more than 90,000 miles of pipeline infrastructure across 38 states and Canada.
