Kelcy Warren’s Board Seats Span Education, Arts, and Parks

Alongside his work leading Energy Transfer, which he founded and now serves as Executive Chairman, Kelcy Warren holds several prominent board positions. Those governing bodies touch higher education, the national arts scene, and urban green space.

Governor Greg Abbott appointed Warren to the University of Texas System Board of Regents, with a term that runs through 2025. He joined the Kennedy Center Board of Trustees in 2019. Closer to home, he serves on the board of the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation.

Ties to Texas Higher Education

His regent seat connects to a personal history. Kelcy Warren graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1978, and he has stayed close to the school. Across 25 years he made 10 gifts totaling $4 million, supporting Texas Tier One research initiatives, the Texas Business Hall of Fame Scholarship, and a graduate fellowship named for his former professor and mentor, Syed Qasim.

The 2023 gift dwarfed those earlier contributions. Warren donated $12 million to UTA, the largest single donation in the university’s history, to support its resource and energy engineering program. “Texas faces a critical need for highly skilled graduates who can manage energy resources, and this innovative REE program will help meet that demand,” he said.

From Boardroom to Green Space

The park foundation role reflects his investment in Klyde Warren Park. His $10 million donation in 2012 helped create the 5.2-acre space bridging uptown and downtown Dallas, and a later $20 million gift is funding expansion and more free public programs.

Additional causes include MD Anderson Cancer Center, the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center, the March of Dimes, the Bush Foundation, and the West Dallas Youth Academy, which he has supported through an Energy Transfer partnership with the Texas Rangers since 2018.

Industry peers have taken note. Kelcy Warren has been honored by Hart Energy, the Texas Oil & Gas Association, SMU Cox’s Maguire Energy Institute, and D CEO Magazine, and he received the Gas Processors Association’s Hanlon Award. He was also named a 2020 Laureate in the Dallas Business Hall of Fame. Read this article for more information.
