The Harmon Howard Library is still in the growth stage, containing 250 to 300 books as well as many CD’s. It was collected over the past 30 years by Mary Blystone and Ruth Berdine and became my responsibility when Mary died in 2003. Before she died I suggested naming it after her great grandfather, and she enthusiastically agreed. Ruth turned 97 this spring and is still an ardent researcher and contributor to the library. Her her grandfather was Harmon Howard, a descendent of Obediah Howard.
Eventually we would like to be able to have the books and CD’s accessible to the public, but at this time I am just collecting material for it. If you would like to contribute a copy of your genealogy research for others to benefit from, we would be more than happy to add it to our shelves. In addition to loose leaf pages received from readers, we have copies of books, have purchased books both new and old concerning Howards and their lineages, books on the Norfolk line, diaries of the period, some historical fiction pertaining to Howard’s and other royalty of England as well as research books for immigrant ancestors concerning the colonial period. If you know of a book you think we should have please let us know.
If you know of a book which has information in it that would be beneficial to your research, feel free to contact me. If we have it in our library I will look up the information, time permitting, and try to email the results.
I am in the process of adding titles of our holdings to this section of the website, so far I have only listed a few books; check out Our Books. I have also included a Featured Book where I list all the Howards/Haywards/Harwoods etc found in the index. That fantastic site I found for researching books out of print is no longer available as they have decided not to do any more scanning.
