The newsletter has been published for over 20 years and is now on its third editorial group. The main focus of The Howard Historian for many years has been researchers helping each other through sharing genealogical information and lineages.
With the advent of the internet, information has became instantly available to everyone. Much of the information now available is in the form of county records, grave registries, and work being shared on a major basis by other researchers. As a result of this internet boom subscriptions have fallen off and the focus needs to change to an internet information format. (Though there are some elderly people still out there who do not have internet access, and I would be willing to include them in a written format).
When I took over there were few new lineages being sent in, so I changed the format to included a few articles, bits and pieces I found in books and on the internet to suggest areas where further research might prove interesting, and searched through information that different states were adding to their online holdings.
I have decided not to publish a subscription newsletter this year, and possibly for longer. Instead, I am writing a book about Thomas Arundel Howard, which I have researched for about seven years. It is a very interesting story I stumbled across while going through the notes that came with the Howard Historian. I also plan to continue doing research for The Howard Historian and write a few longer articles for publication. I am going to redo all the old newsletters so they will be available in PDF format, the last three or four years have already been switched. As soon as I figure out how to get the newsletters available through Amazon.com, I will add a link. The prices have not changed since I took over, though instead of subscribing for a year each issue will still be available for just $6.
I have also decided to become an associate of Amazon.com and will list books I think readers may be interested in that pertain to genealogy or the colonial immigration period. Proceeds from the newsletters and other sales will help pay for this website. The newsletters and other products will be on the Newsletter link, which is currently under construction.
